My money management method

Simplify Budget was born from the way I manage my money. When I do my expenses I list all my fixed expenses on the first day of the month. So I know how much money I have left to spend from my income and when the fixed expenses are due. During the month I just log my irregular expenses on a calendar view so I know my spending behavior. I know which days I spend more and which days I spend less, so I have full control over my budget. At every end of month I enter all my net worth in 4 buckets (Liquid Assets, Investments, Physical Assets and Debts). I save 1 snapshot of my net worth usually the last day of the month so I know my financial health over time. This data helps me to plan and build wealth better.

How I use Simplify Budget

I log my irregular expenses from mobile and on desktop I review my budget, my fixed expenses and net worth. Since Simplify Budget is a web app, it works on any device with a browser. No app store restrictions, no syncing issues between phone and desktop.

Why I built this app

I used to do all this in Google Sheets. But I kept hitting limitations with it because it didn't work well on mobile and didn't have the automations I needed. Google Apps Script turned out to be the perfect solution. It allowed me to:

  • Fully automate recurring expenses
  • Log multiple expenses per day in a spending calendar I designed
  • Auto-copy my end-of-month net worth snapshot to the next month
  • Works on mobile and across devices

What does it mean to you

Since this is a multi-user budget tracker app that writes on your Google Sheets, you can just log in with your Google account and start using it. I used to share my budget sheets with people but whenever I made updates to them they wouldn't be able to get it automatically. With Simplify Budget they do.
